Information about Manuscript Submission

The proceedings of the PSE 2004 will be published as a special issue of the Journal "Surface and Coatings Technology" (Elsevier). The manuscript has to be submitted in electronic form via the manuscript submission system. Please, include the PSE-2004 paper acronym in the field for comments to the editor.

The maximum length of manuscripts is 4 printed pages in the journal for contributed papers and 5 for invited papers (plenary and keynote lectures). The length limitation will be rigourously enforced.

For the maximal length please use the following orientation guide:

• For contributed papers (4 printed pages in the Journal) the manuscript length is about 18.000 characters (including space characters). This is equivalent to about 2600 words.
• For invited papers (5 printed pages in the Journal) the manuscript length is about 24.000 characters (including space characters). This is equivalent to about 3400 words.

Each micrograph, photograph, graph, schematic, spectrum, etc., counts as 1100 characters (150 words ). A full-page table counts as 2200 characters (300 words), half page as 1100 characters (150 words). The list of references is included in the character / word count. The list of figure captions is not included in the character / word count.

Papers will be published in English. Authors' manuscripts must be consistent in style, spelling and syntax.

Structure: Please adhere to the following order of presentation: Article title, Author(s), Affiliation(s), Abstract, PACS codes and keywords, Main text, Acknowledgments, Appendices, References, Figure captions, Tables.

Corresponding author: The name, complete postal address, telephone and fax numbers and the E-mail address of the corresponding author should be given on the first page of the manuscript.

Keywords: A maximum of six keywords should be indicated below the abstract to describe the contents of the manuscript. Keywords should be selected, if appropriate, from the following classes: theoretical methods, experimental methods, phenomena, materials, and applications. A recommended list of current keywords used in the Journal will be published regularly in the Journal.

References: References to other work should be consecutively numbered in the text using square brackets and listed by number in the reference list. Please refer to a recent issue of the journal or to the more detailed instructions for examples.

Deadline: The deadline for manuscript submission is the date of the PSE conference. Manuscripts will be accepted up to Friday, September 17th.
